TOP 5 MISTAKES NEW DRIVERS MAKE
Driving to some is an adventure, to some, a life-saving skill to move from one point to another in a safe and fast way and for some, it is a hobby they enjoy and find pleasure in.
Whichever category you find yourself or would love to be in, there is a stage that comes with it, as well as every other thing we engage in life. But, do you know that over 90% of road accidents are caused by human negligence? To avoid such mistakes, below are five mistakes and how to avoid them. Enjoy!
1. Not being 100% attentive: We are in a world where distractions abound in different forms and ways, so it is very easy to get distracted. And this may be in thoughts or what is distracting from other road users, as much as we should take cognizance of what happens on the road while we drive, we need to pay attention to what we are doing, driving.
Rapt attention would guide the placement of the legs so you won’t accelerate when you are to halt, and will guide the way you steer your wheels also, it will save you from the likely negligence of other road users like you and so on.
2. Speeding: The thrills from being new to anything, could build the overconfidence to overdo, and in this case, to step on the gas than needed.
Speeding is one of the biggest mistakes as it increases the rate of harm if any slight glitch happens on the road or to the car. So, drive carefully, and be mindful of your speed.
3. Texting and driving: Increasingly, this has been one of the deadliest mistakes both young and old make while on the road. A five seconds distraction on the phone especially when a top speed could lead to disaster.
So, one thing at a time, if a necessary need to use the phone comes up, you can pull over to use it and continue your journey afterward.
Also, the use of hands-free devices could help.
4. Not wearing a seat belt: Apart from the illegality of not wearing a seat belt, not wearing one could lead to a fatal accident. Seatbelts save lives, so it is important for both the driver and passengers to use their belts for protection.
5. Forgetting to use the indicator signs: using the indicator when changing lanes or turning a corner is not just a driving etiquette, but an important safety precaution that informs other road users of our intentions. And, when you’re done, ensure you turn it off. This would aid guided decisions of others and ultimately avoid accidents.
There are more to these mistakes, and the overall advice is for all to drive with caution.
Drive safely.
