Dental Hygiene

For some, brushing at night can be quite tasking. Of course, you come back home drained and exhausted and all you want to do is fall on your bed and sleep off. This explains why people miss sessions of night brushing and say it's fine.

Well, it's not fine, if you don't want to find yourself crying in the dentist's chair in few years to come, this is for you.

I'm about to change your mind and make you see reasons why you shouldn't ignore brushing your teeth before going to bed.

What happens in your mouth?

There are thousands of bacterias in your mouth, most of which causes tooth decay. They don't just cause tooth decay unless you give them a chance to.

These bacterias form bacterial communities known as dental plaque which sticks on the tooth surface. When they aren't regularly removed with your toothbrush, they harden and form tartar (this sticks to the surface of the teeth exceedingly, making it difficult to wash off). This can lead to cavities, gingivitis (gum diseases) and tooth loss.

Your mouth produces less saliva at night, at this time where your mouth isn't well moisturized, the bacterias find this to be a better opportunity to feast in your mouth. They produce highly acidic substances that could cause gum diseases and bad breath.

Now that you know what happens in your mouth.

Here are a few tips on how to take care of your teeth.

_ Brush twice a day: This can't be over emphasized, by doing this, you prevent the plaque from sticking to your teeth.

I get it, sometimes you forget, sometimes you're just too tired and you can't stand up. Brushing doesn't have to be the last activity you do before going to bed, you can do this a little earlier.

And don't deceive yourself by going back to eat.

_Brush 2 to 4 minutes: Yes, do this at 45 degrees to your gum with a fluoride toothpaste (preferably) it keeps your enamel strong and prevents cavities.

_Don't scrub too hard: Use a soft toothbrush, gently moving the brush back and forth, to prevent damages to your gum and enamel.

_Floss: This is a dental thread used to remove the gross stuff in between the teeth and you should floss one a day.

_ Rinse with water.

If you do these, you're good to go. Most importantly brush twice a day, it makes you more confident to smile and gives you good breath.

Maintaining a good dental health is just as important as getting rid of pimples.
